Inspection Methods
Visual Inspection
The visual pest inspection process will take approximately 1-2 hours depending on the size of your property. Your inspector will perform a visual inspection of your of the entire property including, both internal and external for evidence of pest damage or termite activity. Areas that are covered include sub flooring (this is where many problems evolve due to the damp, cool, dark conditions) and roofing cavities. All other accessible areas of the property will also be covered including foundations, floors, wall linings and ceilings.
The visual inspection will also check all plumbing to floor connections for dampness or pest activity. All rooms will be checked for pin holes in walls and ceilings. These holes can be missed by the naked eye and can be used as entry points for insects. A thermal imaging camera is normally used for this process.
Thermal Imaging Inspection
If the pest inspector feels there maybe termites active we will use a thermal imaging camera. A thermal camera uses infrared imaging that can trace heat patterns from the inside wall cavities. These areas are not traceable by the human eye. A termite colony will disrupt the heat uniformity. The camera then reads and displays these patterns similar to a weather radar map. Purples and blues for cooler temperatures, yellows, oranges and reds indicating warmer temperatures. Termites are cold-blooded insects, so how do they send off heat? The hot spots are generated not by the termite, but by the digestion of the wood, and cold spots are caused by the nests they build out of cool, damp mud. Finding the reds’ or intense blues’, the inspector will locate the problems areas and map them for treatment.
The Process
Assessment Stage: The assessment begins with an evaluation of the property during the inspection. All areas are assessed carefully to identify any evidence of pest infestations.
